I would spontaneously rather "widen" the door to the outside, because otherwise the wood paneling would have to be shortened on the inside. I imagine it's more difficult than cutting the insulation on the outside.

Maybe you have to decide spontaneously after removing the frame, depending on how cleanly the installer could cut it out and how well the connection to the wood inside is feasible.
