We want to install electric shutters in our new skylight (builder would like $3000), with a power connection or solar panel.

But I have questions about both options.

Power connection: how do you connect the blinds to a power source? you will probably need to have an electrician run a power cable to a toggle switch for control, or can you then connect the cable and toggle switch yourself? Can you even get that?

Where exactly does the cable have to come out?

A solar panel with a battery and a wireless button:

Do you have any experience with it? The skylight is oriented to the northeast, does it generate enough electricity?

Do any of the big brands know what radio technology they use, like Velux, RotoQ or others like (Z-Wave, Zigbee or their own radio technology?)

My sister ordered a velux system with a radio button and solar panels later and thus only paid 1/3 of what the GC wanted. So far she is very happy with it.

We have a Roto with a solar panel. It has worked perfectly so far – as of 2018.
