A skylight is louder when it rains than no skylight, but much quieter than a motorhome.
We've had wooden Velux windows without roller shutters for 18 years – noisy and prone to rot. The other two Velux windows we changed to plastic windows with roller shutters 5 years ago. I think these are better. The noise when it rains is less when the blinds are closed. It gets louder during hail. Mechanical opening, remote controlled roller blinds.
Some companies have a fixed position that provides minimal ventilation (similar to tilt-up windows) even when the blinds are closed and during rain. That's what I do. These windows hinge at the top, not in the middle.
