Do I need a expansion joint for a vinyl bathroom floor?

I am going to renovate a 5 m2 bathroom and intend to install vinyl flooring.

Is there any way to not include a joint around the perimeter or cover it with silicone or something similar?

Will the vinyl flooring expand and by how much?  Is it necessary to include space in the joint for this?
