Code of Conduct
The community is happy to see and welcome you here! Here are a few general rules.
Be constructive
Our community is a bit academic. We gather experience and information, not emotion. That's where we differ from the forums. Try to keep the issue in focus. Facts and arguments first, then your attitude.
Don't use captions, taglines, greetings, thank yous.
The exception is your profile page – it belongs to you. So fill it out the way you like.
Acknowledgements and other expressions of appreciation in texts are redundant. If you use captions, taglines, greetings, thank yous, they will be removed to reduce the information noise.
Be polite
Ask Builders is a welcoming and safe environment.
Whether you come to ask questions or generously share knowledge, remember that we come here to learn together.
Be polite and friendly. This is especially important when communicating remotely, where there is more opportunity for miscommunication. Avoid sarcasm. Tone is difficult to grasp online.
Be patient with misconceptions and those who, don't know everything you know.
Good feedback means kind, respectful, and constructive feedback focused on community goals, not personal preferences. You are expected to give and receive feedback with a growth mindset.
Discrimination and harassment are prohibited. Any unfriendly behavior is strongly discouraged by the community.
We also have general prohibitions, as in any decent professional community.
Don't spam
We understand the need to promote services on the construction market. How exactly this is done is important.
The service offers free promotion of construction services provided by community members, in proportion to their contribution to the community. The best professionals get the best audience. Get to know our method better if you need to.
If you do mention a product or service in your posts, be careful. Here's what's required:
- Don't do it in every post you make.
- Report your connection to the product or service mentioned right there (a profile post doesn't count).
- Don't include links except in direct support of what you've written. Remember that links do not replace the information in the response itself and are critically evaluated by moderators.
If you follow these rules, you most likely won't get banned by moderators. However, the community willingly minuses intrusive self-promotion, and often marks it as spam. We've warned you.
You may also openly support your product on this site. However, it is important that you are an expert in that product. If you are aiming to promote someone else's business (as a hired SEO expert), please do not do it in this community.
Don't cheat
We use retrospective statistical analysis to identify affiliate user actions and linked accounts. As stated in the user agreement, such actions sooner or later lead to the banning of accounts, with rollback of unwanted actions.
Participate
Even if you're not asking or answering questions, there's always something to do:
- Highlight better questions and answers with your vote.
- If you see misinformation, add comments indicating exactly what is wrong.
- Edit and improve existing questions and answers.
- Point out the best answer to your question.
